Maternity Leave Insurance Anyone? All insurance works in the same way, in that the insurer hopes to take your money and have no claim from you for the duration of the policy. Imagine if you were thinking about conceiving and then went to apply for some form of maternity leave insurance. There is no way you could get maternity leave insurance if a claim for maternity leave was almost inevitable! We've all heard the news recently about the woman who just gave birth to Octuplets. You may also know that she was already the mother of six young children. There's a lot of buzz in the media on how she will cope with such a brood both physically and financially. Even though most expectant Mum's don't anticipate giving birth to an army of offspring, being pregnant is for some a worrying time. This is why some women decide to take out a maternity insurance policy above their usual health insurance. But is it really necessary, you may still be asking? |

Who, you might say, would want to take out some kind of supplemental maternity insurance on top of their standard health cover? Why is pregnancy health insurance so important to some women and not others? Well, there could be some family history of problematic births, or perhaps the mum to be just wants what every women wants during a pregnancy, and that is a little peace of mind with the knowledge that they will receive the best possible care in the event of a medical emergency. It's sometimes a little odd to hear folks complaining about the cost of health insurance policies, especially when the average household spends more money insuring their ‘stuff’ than they do themselves and their loved ones. After all, wouldn't you sooner lose a boat than a baby?
You don't need to ask a woman what the most precious time of her life is, as just about every female would say that her pregnancy is, especially the first experience of this natural condition. This is why so many mums-to-be, and especially those older women, want the peace of mind that pregnancy health insurance gives them during their 9 month term. A lot of women also like to relax prior to giving birth and not work right up to the last minute. Although there is not really any kind of maternity leave insurance policy to be had, most good employers these days do a lot to support women taking out maternity leave in terms of keeping their jobs open and helping them with slow reintroduction (part time deals) back into the workplace. For a women to get hold of a maternity leave insurance policy might be a bit of wishful thinking, but supplemental maternity insurance, or some kind of addon pregnancy health insurance to an existing health policy, does give a lot of expectant mums the peace of mind they deserve. |
